Bulimia Essays - Eating Disorders, Psychiatric Diagnosis, RTT
Bulimia Essays - Eating Disorders, Psychiatric Diagnosis, RTT Bulimia Bulimia is an eating disorder marked by consumption of large quantities of food at one sitting, followed by induced vomiting of taking laxatives to get rid of the body food. It usually affects young women, especially adolescents, but is observed in older women and men also. People with bulimia are often obsessed with food and self gratification, and the disorder frequently accompanies Anorexia Nervosa. Such behavior stems from psychological difficulties involving a compulsive desire for perfection, poor self-image, and stressful familt relationships; depression is also common. Research in the late 1980's says that bulimia itselg, however, may be caused by impaired secretion of a hormone, chlecystokinin (CCK), that normally induces a feeling of fullness after a meal. Severe medical problems can result from bulimia nervosa, such as nutritional deficiencies and hormonal changes leading to menstrual irregularities. Where bulimia has been present for a long time, metabolic imbalance and heart disprders can occur. Treatment is most successful when medical therapy and psychotherapy are combined.

The United States can be expressed as representative democracy It may be said that there are technical differences. The term representative democracy is to mean comparatively non-democratic republics You can use it, but please watch this conversation. Why do people say that America is not a democracy but a republic? Usually, it is a semantic problem, sometimes a political party problem, but sometimes people get absorbed in technical terms. For the basic government type, democracy implies direct democracy in this regard, and America says it is not direct democracy, it contains only a few alternatives. Social problem - elder care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Social problem - elder care - Essay Example re services to their elderly parents, may hope not to find themselves facing such care needs, and may not face a legal requirement that they do so or face a requirement that is not enforced. The children may not, in fact, ever face such needs because some percentage of the elderly reaches the end of life without developing personal-care needs. The need to care for a child is in nearly all cases a temporary situation, followed by a transition a lengthy and gradual transition, to be sure - to the capacity for self-care associated with independent living as an adult. However, the transition into disability during old age may occur gradually or rapidly, and is likely to signal the onset of an irreversible state of dependency, one that will end only in death. Thus, for several reasons elder care merits, and receives, special attention. Yet, elder care and other major types of care work, such as caring for young children, share many common elements: much of the care is provided in private households and is done so "informally" by family members; the care entails heavy use of time inputs; care is provided more often by women than by men; the care effort imposes costs in many intangible domains upon those who do it; and, the caring produces benefits for society at large. Both the costs and the benefits are hard to quantify, in principle and in practice. (Arno, P., Levine, C., and Memmnott, M, 1999) Although different countries exhibit considerable variation in the types and generosity of publicly funded programs with which to meet the care needs of older people, the family remains "everywhere the most important providerâ⬠of such care. There is a voluminous research literature concerned with the nature, extent, components, and consequences of informal care provided to disabled elders. Much of that work is based on small, local-area samples, but in recent years a number of national-level data sources have become available with which to study elder care. One of the most

Uses of ICT and Computers in Britain :: ICT Essays
What is ICT? - A Brief Outline ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology, and is technology used to handle information and aid communication. ICT systems are often of much benefit to our everyday lives. We cannot go to the bank or supermarket without avoiding an ICT system in one form or another. Companies and organisations often implement ICT systems to help them go about their business, as well as their customer's or client's, more efficiently and increase their productivity. Barcodes are a classic example of an ICT system being implemented to make a business run more efficiently. Instead of having to price each item individually, shops and supermarkets had the price, and product details already printed on the packaging, meaning a lot of time and money was saved. What is ICT in education? Since the development of the first microprocessor in 1972, computers and technology have evolved rapidly. As we have become more dependent on this technology, we have felt it necessary to teach the masses about it. Hence, in the mid seventies, computer systems were gradually introduced to schools and other educational institutions. As systems developed, more and more students took an interest in the subject, as well as the realisation of these educational institutions that computers could aid teaching and learning in more than one way. Nowadays, in almost all schools, colleges and universities today, there are ICT systems in place that are used to aid education in one way or another. Many have networks, with access to the Internet students, which give students access to vast quantities of information, which is an immense study aid. However, so many different pieces of technology are used in schools, colleges and universities today, that it is hard to define what is used for education, and what is not. You could say that any piece of equipment that can be used by the students, to their benefit is ICT being used in education. Examples of this could be a network of computers in a school, allowing students to type essays, and do research on the Internet. ICT in education could even stretch to the use of a digital camera by an art student. It is anything that aids the student in its education, whether it is a word processor or a digital camera. Sources of Information Most of the information that I use will come from my sources of primary information, that is The Mill Hill School Foundation and Middlesex University. I will however, be using some secondary information. This is information that I will get from the Internet, books, news articles, television programs, etc. The two will be used in conjunction to from the report.

Essay about The Importance of Philosophy - 582 Words
The Importance of Philosophy ââ¬Å"All things in life are philosophical.â⬠This is a well-known quote by the renowned Greek scientist/philosopher Aristotle. When one is to imagine life without thought, free will or knowledge, they are left to only imagine the oblivion they would be left to reside in. To me, philosophy is more than ethics, esthetics, and epistemology... it is the ability to stand ones ground with certain viewpoints, attitudes and beliefs. Philosophy seemed to be the center of the majority of peoples lives Before the Common Era, yet today it also upholds just as much, if not more, importance to the normal person than of the ââ¬Ëscientistââ¬â¢ or renowned ââ¬Ëtheorist.ââ¬â¢ Philosophy makes people who they are, their ownâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Her statement is a prime example of philosophy. The content of her testimonial consisted of many supported ideas and thoughts. Yet, at the same time, the statement she made was rousing to anyone that was perhaps overhearing or l istening to the conversation. It upheld all the characteristics for a good philosophical conversation. They include various aspects of diversity, thought, support and liberalism. Without philosophy the world would be incomplete. It is common knowledge that there is gray in every argument, even the most miniscule, it is never black or white. Philosophy is what the gray area consists of, different beliefs and ideas that cannot fit in either of the two groups. That is what makes philosophy significant; there are no limits to it. There are no boundaries to what the human mind can think and there are no unattainable dreams that oneââ¬â¢s mind cannot conceive. Therefore stating that there are no tangible boundaries for philosophy, neither are there elusive limitations. Philosophy can be viewed in so many different ways, with so many different aspects looked at and critiqued. The simple statement, ââ¬Å"eventually the sun will burn out and the Earth will cease to existâ⬠can produce a rousing philosophical conversation.
